Ah! India! The vast Subcontinent! Another pinhead (big one) on the map of our conference destinations at the far corners of the world! This time we’re joining our colleagues from ISABE for the 27th edition of the International Society of Air-Breathing Engines.
This is also the story of a new flame.
The MOeBIUS principle is based on the recursive sequential combution, where the annular combustor is used to return burned gases in the next flame. The flow dynamics generate an intertwinned system of spiral flames that design a donut. This flame is operated lean, and presents unique features in the low-NOx and extended lean range that is of interest for the aviation sector.
Mrs Hofer from Combustion Bay One e.U. will present the flames analysed in the frame of the MOeBIUS.H project, with fuels such as hydrocarbons or hydrogen. Provided we successfully climb all the TRL steps towards the flying principle - and we have good reasons to believe that we will - MOeBIUS offers the possibility to reduce the combustor length by 25%.
Our presentation:
- Monday September 21rst, 16.00; session 2E "Combustor 2", Room Prithvi.
- Experimental validation of Recursive Sequential Combustion in a constant section configuration for airborne applications. Hofer, A., Giuliani, F., Burgzorg, D., & Paulitsch, N. V. M. In proceedings of the 27th ISABE Conference (International Society of Air Breathing Engines), Mumbai, India. Beautiful Lombardy, here we are!
We are presenting two technical papers at the Turbo-Expo 2026 conference of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) this year, and CBOne is exhibiting at this venue for the first time!
It is with great humility and deep emotion that we arrive in a country where the words ‘Ingeniere’ and ‘Bella Meccanica’ carry such profound meaning. May we prove ourselves worthy of them.
This year we are presenting two papers. One on our advances in metrology using KI-pirinha technology (a journal article on this subject is in the pipeline), and the other on our progress with MOeBIUS technology.
KI-pirinha paper: presented by Mr Arno Fallast from FH Joanneum
- Monday June 15th, 16.30; session 05-04: Combustion Measurements 1, location South Wing, Level 2, Amber 2.
- GT2026-179134: Optimal sensor placement for flow field classification in an H2 combustor: foundations for experimental results. Fallast, A., Andracher, L., Lesak, S., Thilker, F., Hofer, A. & Giuliani, F.
MOeBIUS.H paper: presented by Mrs Paulitsch from TU Graz
- Tuesday June 16th, 13:30; session 04-21 Combustion Emissions I, location South Wing, Level 2, Amber 4
- GT2026-176374: Fuel jet dynamics and mixing in a constant section recursive sequential combustor. Paulitsch, N. V. M., Tasmany, S., Woisetschläger, J., Krewinkel, R., Hofer, A. & Giuliani, F.

How many more warning signs do we need before we commit more wholeheartedly to sustainable fuels?
At the start of this century, our fear was peak oil. And rightly so. Historic oil-producing regions such as Montana were heralding the end of operations for many oil derricks. Malthusian thinking was making a major comeback, fuelled by fears of a global population explosion devouring its resources. We were afraid of suffering the fate of Easter Island, or, to be more in keeping with the times, a Mad Max-style fate.

We are proud to announce that our sixth invention has been patented under the numbers AT528115B1 and EP4729299A1. It involves connecting flowing shapes with the thermodynamics of two fluids: one flowing within the shape and one flowing outside it, as in a heat exchanger, for example. This includes the novel Mathematics To Shape approach that you can also find on our matosha website.

Ten Years with a Partner is Something One Must celebrate!
Research and development is in CBOne's DNA. For the past ten years, we have used Austrian public funding via FFG to make significant achievements in combustion technology. The following series of postcards highlights moments, ideas, and the aesthetics of shapes we liked from a project.
The team is on fire!
2024-2025 marked the first significant increase in staff since the pandemic. The number of people working for CBOne has doubled. This paragraph is dedicated to all those who drive CBOne forward every day.
CBOne has an industrial vision with two main objectives. The first is to enhance conventional combustion techniques through innovation and optimisation of methods and equipment. The second is to ensure the long-term viability of combustion. This can be done by turning to fuels of the future. Examples of such fuels include hydrogen.
This may sound simple, but it is not. Those who work with us (in the team, or in common projects) must embody a certain culture and passion. These two factors drive us forward.
A big thank you to my wonderful team and colleagues! Have a great end of the year, and see you next year, in great shape! Together, we're going to score some points!
